If you made it this far, you probably already have some idea why you need VidMoLyze. But, just to be safe, here are some thoughts on the usage for VidMoLyze. The app was created by one guy, me, Michael Weingarden, and AI- both Claude and Cursor. I have been writing code and developing apps in one form or another for 40 years now. But my job is full time high school math teacher at Newbury Park High School. The thing I love most about teaching is my students. But the thing I love second most is creating interesting lessons for my students. And because I'm a technology guy, I love creating interesting lessons using technology. However, as a full time math teacher, I use most of my time outside of class creating lessons and grading and haven't had the time to do all the coding I would like. AI changed all that. Some students came to me last year and showed me the apps they created using Claude and Cursor. I was so impressed that I ran out right away and bought a Macbook Air M5 and an iPhone 16e and started paying for subscriptions to Claude and Cursor. And since then, I developed a game (Seagull Strike) and now this app.
As a former engineer, I have always tried to bring real world engineering applications into my algebra classroom. After all, Algebra 2 is mostly a physics class. And one of my favorite topics from physics is projectile motion. Who doesn't love seeing things fly through the air? I mean, Angry Birds, right? Now that I have AI and it's summertime, I decided to see if I could create an app that is simple to use but powerful for understanding algebraic concepts like linear motion, parabolic motion, periodic motion, exponential decay motion (bouncing ball), pendulum motion and more. With this app, you can do all of those things. You simply record the video, provide some calibration info about the scene, set up the origin and axes, track the motion and then the software will email you a data file with time and distance in both the x and y directions. Once you have the data, you can import or paste it into Numbers, Excel or Google Sheets and graph and analyze just as you would with any data from your textbook. Except this data isn't from your textbook.
